- We selected 732Y in the Saddle Valley dispersal. To quote Dan Fitzpatrick: "To some no explanation of the Maid family is necessary. In the last two decades, Klondike Maid 806M has been the heart of the Klondike Program. 806M is the dam of Klondike 469L 732R, some know him as the "milk bull". She was here (Saddle Valley) in production until 15 years of age. 806M had a lifetime weaning index of 111.7 on 14 calves. She was a deep ribbed female, with capacity, and for a female who never had her feet trimmed, she looked like a long yearling. Don Mitchell never gave a lot of advice, but on one of the few trips he made to our pastures he said, "If you ever get a bull out of that cow, use it. I don't care what he looks like...use it." That day he was referring to Klondike Susie 732Y, the only daughter we had in production out of 806M. We took him at his word and now two sons walk our pastures. 732Y is our highest performing female, consistently. She weaned the heaviest WDA calf for four years in a row. She has been a donor female for us and if ever there was a female deserving of the job, she's it."
